This will be the third attempt to create a series based on the motif of “Crazy Intention” (1999)
Chronology
After an unpleasant incident at their elite college, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien decide to preserve their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the vice president of the United States of America. The live-action sequel Cruelty 2 (2000), in which Amy Adams replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series and was later turned into a feature film. Gellar later reprized her role as Katherine in the NBC pilot Cruel Games (2016), which was not planned for a series.
It was followed by Okrutne Namjere (1999)
Cruel Intentions, created by Phoebe Fisher and Sarah Goodman for Amazon Prime Video, is a disappointing adaptation of a classic film. The series tells the story of two wealthy siblings, Sebastian and Catherine, who are determined to maintain their privileged position by any means necessary. The acting is dull: the main roles of Sarah Hook, Zach Burgess and Savannah Lee Smith cannot convey the essence of their characters.
The plot is confusing and cannot interest the viewer
Hook’s portrayal of Katherine is particularly weak, lacking the necessary charm and cunning that made the original Katherine so memorable. The series asks to introduce new characters and storylines that add little to the overall story. The dialogue is often clumsy and lacks the wit and humor that made the original film so enjoyable.
The production quality is mediocre, it lacks visual flair and atmosphere
The setting of a prestigious college in Washington, DC, cannot convey the glamor and intrigue that made the original film so memorable. In general, it can be said that “Cruel Games”; does not live up to the expectations placed on the original film. It’s a missed opportunity to bring a beloved story to a new generation and leave viewers disappointed and unimpressed. Rating: 4/10.
