This will be their third attempt at making a TV series based on the world of Okrutne Namjere (1999)
Chronology
After a crazy incident at their elite university, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien try to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Okrutne Namjere 2 (2000), with Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted TV series before being remade into a feature film.
Okrutne Namjere (1999) followed
Gellar later reprised her role as Kathryn in 2016 for the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. As someone who loved the original film, I found it very difficult to watch at first as I was constantly comparing the characters to the film.
The character I really had trouble with at first was Lucian
After a few episodes, I was on the verge of stopping comparing because, in my opinion, it is not a remake. It’s a completely new series with “similarities.” Characters have different names, etc.
However, by the last episode he became my favorite
Even after accepting that it wasn’t a remake, I couldn’t enjoy his character at all. My advice is to not compare yourself; if you do, you’ll be very disappointed.
